Professor and Program Coordinator, Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing

Biography

Wendy McDonald is a Registered Nurse (RN) with a clinical background in acute medicine, critical care and community nursing.

Wendy is new to Georgian College and is a full-time professor in the Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BScN) degree program at Georgian College’s Owen Sound Campus. She is also the HBSN Program Coordinator for the Owen Sound campus as well as the Program Coordinator for Owen Sound and Orangeville Campuses Honours Bachelor of Science Advanced Standing program. She has worked with other Ontario colleges in both clinical instructor and facilitator roles with BScN and practical nursing students.

Wendy’s research interests lie in the transition of new graduate nursing students into practice in Ontario, with a focus on organizational socialization and mentorship to further develop nurse retention and quality improvement.
Wendy is an advocate for experiential learning, focusing on learning through experience and internal reflection, which is synchronous with the development of critical thinking skills that are fundamental in today’s nursing practice.

I love helping students develop both evidence-based nursing knowledge and personal nursing knowledge. I aspire for my students to build strong relationships with patients, families, peers and members of their interdisciplinary teams. I want to impart to those that I mentor attributes of respect, accountability, adaptability, integrity, kindness, compassion, perseverance, gratitude, humility, advocacy and strength. This is fundamental because these qualities will support students in their nursing profession, building positivity and inspiring change and growth in their communities of practice.
