Helpful tips for completing your general application
- Most fields within the budget are seeking monthly income and expenses, unless otherwise indicated.
- Tuition and textbooks would be entered as a total amount.
- Once complete, review for errors! Be sure to check the total income and total expenses amounts to see if your budget makes sense. If the income or expenses amount seem too high or low, you may have completed your budget incorrectly.
- Remember, the budget should only be calculated for your current study period (academic year), e.g. one, two or three semesters; not the length of your entire program.
- Be sure to include answers to both parts of any two-part questions that apply to you.
- Applicants are matched to awards by the examples and details they provide.
Be proud of your accomplishments and supply examples of your community involvement, school involvement, accomplishments, awards, or achievements.
- If you’re in your first year, be sure to enter your grade point average (GPA), the name of the last school attended, and upload a copy of your transcript.
- All three answers are required to score your application for academic achievement.
- You can start your application and go back at any time before the closing date to make changes, update or complete.
- This way, you can ensure you provide all the information required.
- If not, send another reminder or select a new reference.
- Ensure you give your references ample time to complete these for you.
- Reference letters are not mandatory for all awards, scholarships and bursaries, but including them will help make your application stronger and may match you with more opportunities to apply for.
- Be sure to review and update your general application each semester before the deadline to be considered for the next round of awards, scholarships and bursaries.
How to apply for awards, scholarships and bursaries at Georgian
Submit a general application
Our online application process connects Georgian students to awards, scholarships and bursaries. With just one online application, you can help fund your future!
You must be a registered Georgian student to apply.
Not yet a registered student? You can still search for award, scholarship and bursary opportunities Georgian has to offer. Information about awards and financial assistance for Lakehead-Georgian (LUGC) students is available on the LUGC website.
To apply, start by logging in to the application system using your Georgian College student email and password:
- After confirming your offer to a Georgian program, you will have received a confirmation letter or letter of acceptance identifying the login and default password for all student systems.
- Part-time students who have registered for individual courses through Continuing Education will receive this initial password to the preferred email provided after completing Georgian’s student number application.
- If you have forgotten your login or password, please reset your password using the password management service or contact IT Support.
Next, complete the general application to determine what award, scholarship and bursary opportunities you’re eligible for.
The majority of the award, scholarship and bursary opportunities offered by Georgian are automatically matched through the general application and you may not be required to complete any further applications. If you’re eligible for additional opportunities that require supplemental information, these will display for you once you have completed and submitted your application.

Yes. You’re required to complete a new general application each academic year in order to be considered for all awards, scholarships and bursaries offered by Georgian.
With the new application system, minimal documentation is required. Students are presented with a series of questions while completing the general application in order to determine eligibility, in addition to imported student data from Banner. Some documents you may be required to provide are listed below.
Transcripts
If you’re a student entering your first year of any program at Georgian, you’ll be asked to provide a copy of your transcript from your most recent educational institution in order to be considered for opportunities that include an academic component.
References
You’ll be asked to provide references in support of your application. With the new application system, you’re not required to submit a reference letter, but simply provide a name and email address for an individual that can serve as a reference for the applicable request. That individual is then sent a reference questionnaire that is generated by the application system. Reference types include community involvement reference, employer reference, academic/faculty reference, and character reference.
Statement
You’re no longer required to provide custom cover letters for each opportunity you’re applying for. With the new system, you’ll instead be asked to provide a statement explaining how receiving an award, scholarship or bursary will assist you in achieving your academic goals. Detailed information regarding the statement is provided when completing the general application.
Budget
You’ll be asked to complete a budget if you wish to be considered for award, scholarship and bursary opportunities which require financial need.
Award, scholarship and bursary opportunities are based on, but not limited to:
- community involvement
- involvement within the Georgian community
- academic achievements
- financial need
- sports and athletics
- first generation students (a student whose parent(s) have not attended postsecondary studies)
