Step 1: Accept your offer
Accept your offer in the IAS portal
You or your representative will receive an automated email from the International Application System (IAS) regarding any further action required or an admission decision.
After receiving this email, log in to the IAS portal to review your pre-admissions invoice, also known as your Pre-Admit Letter of Acceptance (PLOA).
Be sure to accept your offer in the IAS portal and move on to step 2.
What if my offer is conditional?
You can still accept your offer! Before your program starts, you’ll need to meet requirements, complete courses or upgrading, or send in missing documents (e.g. high school students need to complete their last few classes, and mature applicants may need to complete course requirements). To see what requirements you need to meet, view your PLOA or access your applicant dashboard:
- Visit MyGCLife.ca.
- Log in with the dashboard username and password disclosed in your PLOA.
- When you log in for the first time, be sure to change your password to something more secure.
- Review login and email FAQs.
- Click on Academics and then Applicant Dashboard.
Step 2: Pay your tuition deposit and plan your budget
Secure your seat
Once you’ve accepted your offer, pay your $2,500 (CAD) deposit to secure your seat in the program. This non-refundable tuition deposit is due by the date indicated on your Pre-Admit Letter of Acceptance (PLOA).
Keep your payment receipt; you’ll need this for your study permit application.
Upon receipt of your payment, your official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) will appear in your International Application System (IAS) portal. You or your agent must log in to the IAS portal to retrieve the final LOA.
Note: You must pay full semester fees by the deadline in order to register for courses. Tuition and fees listed within your LOA are an estimate based on the current academic year. Tuition fees are charged on a per-semester basis and fees may increase each academic year. Refer to the tuition and ancillary fees page for the latest fee information.
Circumstances beyond the college’s control, including but not limited to war, civil unrest, economic or natural disaster, sanctions and other legal restraints may prevent, delay, or otherwise affect the college’s ability to provide a refund or to make any payment.
Financial aid: You can afford this!
Postsecondary education is an investment in your future. There are many ways we can help you make ends meet.
Step 3: Apply for your study permit/visa
How to apply for a study permit
If this is your first time applying for a study permit, you can do it at the nearest Canadian Embassy, Consulate or High Commission. Review the application process on the Canadian government’s international student page.
You can apply for your permit once you receive your official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and tuition receipt. All the information you’ll need for the study permit application is included within your final LOA.
Upload your proof of visa status to your application in the International Application System (IAS) portal. If an agent submitted the application on your behalf, they’ll also be required to complete this step.
Note: Some countries require a study visa and permit. If your program has a co-op, field placement, field training, industry placement, practicum, clinical placement, practical experience or internship, you’ll need to apply for a separate work permit to complete your program.
How long will the application process take?
The application process could take between four to six months or longer. We suggest you apply as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance. Since the permit legally entitles you to study in Canada, you’ll need it before you enter the country.
What if my study permit application is refused?
If your study permit application is refused, complete the international withdrawal package within the first 10 working days of the term to receive a full refund.
Step 4: Register for courses
How to register
To be eligible to register for classes, the following conditions must be met:
- You are admitted into a program (final or conditional);
- Your non-refundable tuition deposit is fully paid;
- Full semester fees are paid; and
- Proof of your approved study visa/port of entry is received.
Full-time course registration opens about one month before classes begin. Your specific registration day and time can be found in Banner. Check here about two months before the term starts. It’s to your benefit to register at your scheduled time, because courses fill up very quickly when add/drop registration opens. View more registration information and useful tips.
How to get course exemptions
If you have relevant postsecondary experience, our transfer equivalency tool can help you explore course exemptions or advanced standing. If you have relevant work or life experience, a prior learning assessment (PLAR) can determine eligibility for exemptions. Be sure to inquire or apply for credit transfers or PLAR at least 60 days before your term begins. Be mindful of processing times.
