Ian Drennan
Biography
Ian has a PhD in clinical science from the University of Toronto and works clinically as an advanced care paramedic. His research focuses on improving clinical aspects of paramedic care. Ian has experience using a wide variety of research methods from work with large observational datasets, to clinical trials with specific expertise in the development of clinical prediction rules. In addition to his research, Ian is a member of the guideline writing committee for the American Heart Association. At Georgian College, he continues to work on integrating evidence-based paramedicine and has developed the paramedic research program including the annual paramedic research day. Research interests and areas of expertise
- Treatment of life-threatening illness and injury (ie. out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, major trauma, sepsis)
- Advancement of paramedic clinical practice through development of alternative disposition to transportation to the emergency department
- Integrating evidence-based practice into paramedic curriculum and paramedic practice while improving research literacy for paramedics
