Adam Stibbards
Biography
Dr. Adam Stibbards is the Coordinator of the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology degree program at Georgian College and has been a professor of clinical skills training at the College since 2010. Previously, he was a faculty member at both Trent and Lakehead Universities, teaching courses in psychology and interdisciplinary research. Adam was a psychotherapist in private practice for over a decade, working with individuals and couples, as well as leading therapeutic group workshops in the United States and Canada. Early in his career, he worked with children in foster care, and in schools with children and youth with developmental and behavioural challenges.
Adam’s research interests and activities include examining the mechanisms and efficacy of experiential learning approaches, the teaching, learning, development, and impacts of empathy in therapeutic and societal settings, and factors contributing to mental health and well-being, including therapeutic animals, creativity, and time spent in the natural world. He loves nothing more than a long hike through forests and fields with his golden retriever, Lola.
