Social media campaign invites students to tackle racism and discrimination

Georgian students are invited to take part in the Simcoe County #ITSTARTS social media campaign – a public education initiative to promote a unified community that embraces acceptance, inclusion, equity and diversity.
The campaign asks participants to take action against racism and discrimination by posting their pledge on Twitter (@simcoecounty), Facebook (@CountyofSimcoe) and Instagram using the #ITSTARTS hashtag.
#ITSTARTS runs April 23 to May 4. It’s open to everyone living, working and visiting Simcoe County. Pledge as an individual or as a group.
Get involved
Pick up a pledge card from your local library branch or download the pledge card (PDF).
Share your message.
- Post pictures and videos (no more than 30 seconds) on the County of Simcoe Twitter and Facebook pages and Instagram using the #ITSTARTS hashtag.
- Display the pledge card in a visible place.
- Perform acts of inclusivity – host a multicultural lunch, learn about different cultures, read international authors.
Educate yourself.
Visit the Simcoe County website for definitions and resources on how to take safe and purposeful action against racism and discrimination.
Invite others to join the campaign.
Encourage friends, family members, colleagues and community leaders to make their own pledge.
