Meet Kenta!
Kenta works in the International Centre at Georgian College. Being a Georgian alumnus himself, he has great knowledge of what our students need to succeed!
What is your job?
I am an International Student Services Officer. My main duties are co-ordinating international student orientation, airport greeting service and hiring/training/working with international student ambassadors. I enjoy this job very much as I get to work closely with students. I see the potential to try so many new things, for example, events or workshops to help. Please let me know if you have any great ideas.
What city and country are you from?
I am from a small city called Hadano, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
What brought you here?
My passion was for the English language. My first motivation was language acquisition, but I got intrigued in Canada in multiple ways.
You attended Georgian as a student, what program did you take?
I took English for Academic Purposes and the Hospitality – Hotel and Resort Operations Management program. I graduated in 2015.
What are some of the things you found the most different in Canada from Japan?
Language, people’s perspective in life, discipline.
What do you enjoy the most about Canada?
Being among the diverse culture.
What do you miss the most about your hometown?
Family. Mountains. Cherry blossoms in spring. Food.
What do people do for fun in your hometown?
Hiking, golf, mainly outdoor activities.
What are some of the main food dishes you would eat back home?
Rice, noodles, grilled fish, various marinated meat dishes.
Tell us a bit about Japan, what it’s known for, and what makes it great.
Japan is known by its greatness for technology, some unique culture like anime. In my personal opinion, what makes Japan great is the respectful culture and high level of self-discipline.
If I was going to visit your home country, where would you suggest I go, or what should I do?
Go visit traditional Japanese cities like Kyoto. Try diving into totally different culture, environment and try different food.
