Esther from Uganda
Sept. 21, 2018
Meet Esther!
Esther comes to us from Kampala, Uganda and is studying in the Child and Youth Care program at the Orillia Campus. She works with the International Centre as a student ambassador for the Orillia Campus by helping other international students with general questions and information.
When did you start at Georgian College?
September 2016.
How many languages do you speak?
Luganda (Afrikan) and English.
What surprised you the most about Canada/Georgian when you got here?
The weather, from the transitioning of the trees from one colour to another during the change of season, to the frozen bodies of water during winter.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering coming to Canada, what would it be?
Be open minded. Canadians are very good and welcoming people. Being open minded helps one transition into a new culture easily.
Who has inspired you at Georgian?
Orillia Campus Dean Stephanie Dimech is an inspiration to me. Her ability to interact very well and listen to students amazes me all the time.
Where do you plan on going/what do you plan on doing after you graduate from Georgian?
I plan to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in social work.
Tell us something unique/different about yourself that you’d like to share?
I have travelled to Kenya, Rwanda and now Canada where I am pursuing the child and youth care program.
