Students show off award-winning talents and design
March 1, 2018
Georgian Kitchen and Bath Design students were recognized for excellence and had the opportunity to display their projects at the Interior Design Show held Jan. 18 to 21 in Toronto.
The event is Canada’s premier showcase of new products and furniture, superstar designers and avant-garde concepts from North America and beyond.
“The Interior Design show promotes rising design talents and attracts keynote speakers of international acclaim, making it the must-see event of the year for established and emerging designers and a prime opportunity for our students to network and showcase their work,” says Jennifer Lucifora, co-ordinator of the Kitchen and Bath Design program.
During the opening gala, three students were recognized by Blanco Canada Inc., a high quality sink and faucet manufacturer, as winners of its Universal Kitchen Design Competition. The competition consisted of 17 student projects that were evaluated by Ernie Lehmann, owner of Barrie’s Designers Plus Kitchen & Bath.
Students in Mary Dobson’s Sustainable Materials and Finishes class developed a kitchen design that incorporated Blanco’s new PRECIS ADA sink, made of silgranit material. The requirements were to accommodate ADA/CSA standards for people with disabilities.
Huu Tri Lee won first place, which included a $1,000 cheque toward tuition.
Michael Seines and Anatolii Gupalo were respectively second and third place winners, each receiving a tuition award as well.
