Student graffiti project makes direct impact on city of Orillia
Feb. 19, 2016
Students from the Community and Justice Services and Protection, Security and Investigations programs at the Orillia Campus presented findings on their ongoing graffiti initiative to Orillia City Council recently.
During the deputation, students presented their findings on the If You Ignore it . . . You Allow It project from last term, as well as next steps, which include partnering with the Orillia detachment OPP to collaborate with local elementary and high schools to provide education and awareness around the topic, as well as host a graffiti art contest and exhibition in April.
Members of council praised students for their hard work and the contributions Georgian makes to the City of Orillia, indicating the initiative is making direct contributions to the daily life of the city and its members.
The success of the initiative can also be seen in numbers; police have been able to put forth 30 charges of mischief in connection with graffiti sprayed on several buildings in Couchiching Park as well as other tags found throughout the city’s downtown over the past three months.
