Vote for one of two Georgian artists in Barrie art competition

Pratt Homes wants Barrie residents to help determine which of four art pieces it should hoist onto the top of its yet-to-be-built Essa Road condominium. Two of the artists have a Georgian connection – Fine Arts alumna Aylan Couchie and retired Fine Arts program co-ordinator Ted Fullerton.

The chosen piece will be positioned and illuminated on the 70-foot high roof of the six-storey building at 300 Essa Rd., just north of Ardagh Rd. on the hill on the south side. When illuminated at night, everyone will be able to see the glowing piece of art from across the city.

Aylan was recently awarded the International Sculpture Center’s Outstanding Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award – no small accomplishment considering more than 952 works were submitted and the jury selected only 18 pieces.

Ted is a well-known Canadian artist who says that each of his 35+ years at Georgian College felt fresh thanks to the creative students and faculty members he worked with.
