Student wins academic award at National Paramedic Competition
April 12, 2019
On April 6, second-year Georgian Paramedic students traveled to Oshawa to participate in the National Paramedic Competition.
After competing in an internal process, students Paul Howson, Zach Kostigian, Dave Macfadyen, and Eric Alonzi were selected to represent Georgian College. They were then put into two teams who worked with paramedic program faculty after hours to prepare themselves for the competition.
The day of the competition consisted of a written test followed by six demanding scenarios in extremely challenging environments, testing a variety of skills.
Paul Howson placed first overall in the Academic portion after competing against not only the other student teams but also against seasoned paramedics in both the primary and advanced care divisions.
Faculty are extremely proud of the Georgian team’s efforts and participation in this event. Each competitor embraced the competition and strongly demonstrated its motto: Excellence Through Challenge.
