South Georgian Bay Campus offers Business (Co-op), Social Service Worker beginning this fall
June 4, 2015
Two new full-time diploma programs are coming to the South Georgian Bay Campus of Georgian College this fall. Applications are currently being accepted for Social Service Worker and Business (Co-op).
With the addition of these two programs, the South Georgian Bay Campus now offers a total of 10 full-time postsecondary offerings.
Campus Manager Lynn Hynd says the new programs bring even more opportunity for area residents.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring these programs to our local community,” said Hynd. “For many years we have been asked for the Social Service Worker program to be delivered at a local level and we know that graduates of the program will continue to be in high demand”.
The Social Service Worker program provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to become a helping professional in the field of social services. Students are challenged to examine their beliefs and values, to develop interpersonal communication skills and to promote values of social justice, human dignity, and equality. The program includes two community work placements.
For students interested in managing people or processes, the two-year, co-op Business program provides a solid foundation in the basics of business. Studies include economics, accounting, marketing, and human resources. Individual courses provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required to get to work, including two co-op work terms. This program can launch a career or can be a springboard into further studies.
The two-year business program builds on the success of the Bookkeeping and the Business Fundamentals programs offered in Collingwood. Students who wish to exit after their first year in order to start a job can do so while working to complete their diploma on a part-time basis.
