Schulich Builders announces transformational scholarships for Georgian students
March 14, 2024
Schulich Builders is helping to combat the shortage of skilled trades professionals and amplify the importance of the sector by establishing 10 game-changing scholarships for the most promising future Georgian students who enrol in skilled trades programs at the college this fall.
The scholarships will help cover tuition, tools and living expenses.
Five students enrolled in a one-year certificate program and five students enrolled in a two-year diploma program will receive $20,000 for each year of their program. A total of $325,000 has been granted to fund the pilot launch of the Schulich Builders program at Georgian.
‘Innovative and bold investment’
“This scholarship program will have a far-reaching impact on students pursuing a career in the trades as well as our region for years to come,” said Kevin Weaver, President and CEO, Georgian College. “This is an innovative and bold investment in the next generation of skilled trades professionals and the future of our economy. We’re deeply grateful to the Schulich Foundation for its generosity and for choosing Georgian to be part of the Schulich Builders program.”
Georgian is a provincial leader in skilled trades education and offers programs at multiple campuses. Driven by solid relationships with industry, passionate faculty and exceptional learning environments, Georgian is working hard to provide Ontario with a vital, highly qualified workforce.
“We are proud to promote the skilled trades and support Georgian students pursuing this rewarding career path,” said Judy Schulich, Director, The Schulich Foundation. “Central Ontario relies heavily on the trades to build and maintain infrastructure critical for prosperous communities. Our challenge today is not having enough of these talented people to meet the demand.”
In addition to financial support, the Schulich Builders program at Georgian will provide leadership training and mentorship to set up graduates for success.
