A girl holds a video camera.Professional photographers and videographers can gain the skills they need to advance their careers through Georgian’s new Digital Video graduate certificate. The program starts this September at the Barrie Campus.

Digital Video covers pre-production, video capture, sound/editing, video aesthetics and business practices. Students will assess client needs for video products and focus on realistic solutions that will be aesthetically pleasing, marketable and polished.

Courses are taught by such industry leaders as Wyeth Clarkson, a renowned Canadian filmmaker and director.

Digital video has become a specialized service within the photography profession, says Paul Koidis, Associate Dean, Design and Visual Arts.

“Students will learn how to tell stories through digital video and build on their previously gained digital photography and imaging abilities and experience,” says Koidis. “They’ll also gain industry-standard skills and expertise applicable to planning, capturing and editing digital video, and build their portfolio through practical labs.”

Graduates will be ready to become news or field producers, freelance videographers, multimedia technicians, video editors and post-production technicians in corporate video production. They may also seek employment in social media development, video and news media and in web design. Georgian’s entrepreneurial-rich curriculum will also prepare them to become start and operate businesses of their own.

Applicants must have a diploma, degree, or equivalent in photography, including a background in digital photography. Those who do not meet the criteria may still be considered with a portfolio and resumé that shows evidence of creative ability, digital photography and imaging skills, and industry experience.
