Information fair to showcase Georgian College-County of Simcoe health care education plan
Feb. 27, 2015
Georgian College and the County of Simcoe are partnering to offer Practical Nursing and Pre-Health Sciences courses on a part-time basis at the County of Simcoe’s Georgian Village seniors lifestyle community in Penetanguishene.
Potential students are invited to learn more at an information fair planned for March 11 at Georgian Village. There will be two presentations, one at 3 p.m. and a second at 5 p.m.
Participants will receive information packets about the program and have the opportunity to speak with staff members at booths showcasing a variety of Georgian departments (continuing education, financial services, student awards, student success, registrar and OntarioLearn) as well as the County of Simcoe’s human resources department.
“We need more health care workers to meet the needs of our aging population,” said Warden Gerry Marshall. “This is an innovative opportunity for students to gain practical nursing experience in a long term care home setting and bring post-secondary education to small-town Ontario. We congratulate Georgian College, and through these partnerships our vision of Georgian Village as a community hub for health, education and seniors’ services is coming to life.”
Georgian Village is located at 101 Thompson Road, Penetanguishene.
Georgian Village opened in 2013 and is one of four long term care homes operated by the County of Simcoe. With a focus on aging-in-place, Georgian Village offers a continuum of housing and care options for seniors, as well as a range of community-based amenities and services. In 2014, the County of Simcoe received the prestigious Peter J. Marshall Award from the Association of Municipalities Ontario (AMO) for the Georgian Village Redevelopment project. The Peter J. Marshall Award recognizes those municipal governments demonstrating excellence in the use of innovative approaches to improve capital and/or operating efficiency, and to generate effectiveness through alternative service delivery initiatives and partnerships.
