High school students compete in hospitality competition
April 24, 2017
The halls of the Barrie Campus were filled with the aroma of sweet and savoury delights on April 26 as 64 students participated in the annual High School Hospitality Competition. Among the participants were 16 cooking teams, 10 baking teams and six restaurant service teams.
Students in the cooking category were tasked with preparing a three-course meal that included a first course, main entrée and dessert. Baking students worked on an array of baked goods, including apple pies, banana muffins, white bread rolls, eclairs and choux puffs, while restaurant service competitors completed a variety of tasks such as table setting, mocktail preparation and coffee service.
First-place winners in each category received $1,500 toward a scholarship to attend Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation programs at Georgian, while second- and third-place finishers received $1,000 and $750 respectively.
