Georgian student passionate about giving back and creating change
Feb. 5, 2018
Chances are slim that you haven’t met Avery Konda, President of the Barrie Georgian College Students’ Association.
Avery is involved in so many projects at the college and out in the community.
Through an eight-month entrepreneurial co-op organized by the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre, he founded Growing Georgian, an on-campus garden that provides students with fresh, locally grown food.
Avery is actively involved with Georgian’s Ashoka Change Team.
He received the 2017 Co-op of the Year Award.
And he was a large proponent of the $25,000 historic gift the Georgian College Students’ Association at the Barrie Campus made to support mental health services for children and youth at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.
Those are just a few examples!
In November, Avery will run the Las Vegas Marathon with Achilles Canada as a guide for a blind runner Robert Holloway. He’s raising $10,000 – $9,000 to support the non-profit with entrance fees, equipment for disabled athletes, and $1,000 to cover his expenses.
