“Our new Transfer Credit System is a hub where all information exists in one space,” says Nicole St. Pierre, Credit for Prior Learning Officer. “We’re building a repository within the new system to help speed up the entire transfer credit process and make it easier for students to get the credit they deserve.”

The system allows for a more transparent experience where both the student and faculty can see the documents the student submits and the feedback the faculty shares. It’s an intuitive system that shows the student how to submit everything required for evaluation and see the status of their petition at any time.

“It’s always a privilege to work with students in their learning journeys, review questions, and listen to how we can better create an unrivaled student experience,” Nicole adds. “We’re directly impacting students for the better and continuing to learn more about how we’re able to use this system in the best way for students and employees alike.”

Why this Georgian student loves our new system

“As a mature student at the age of 28, I decided to enrol in the Honours Bachelor of Counselling Psychology program at Georgian’s Orillia Campus in 2022. As someone who enjoys helping others, I was drawn to a program that would guide me in applying professional skills to those in need of mental health support. However, after nearly a decade of being out of the classroom, I was nervous about going back to school.

I struggle with technology and navigating certain websites, so I was stressed about the process of transferring some of my older credits from my previous school to apply to my current program. Thankfully, Georgian’s friendly and knowledgeable employees were there to help me navigate through it! I was relieved to have such helpful staff on the phone with me to guide me step-by-step to transfer two of my old credits. In a day and age where it’s increasingly difficult to get human beings to spend the time to resolve an issue, Georgian hasn’t faltered in their ability to help a student in need!”

How to get started

If you’ve completed courses at another postsecondary institution, use the Transfer Equivalency Tool to explore transfer and pathway opportunities. Once you know your options, apply to your Georgian program(s) of choice; transfer credits are reviewed at the time of admission.

You can also use the Transfer Experience System to start a PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment Recognition) petition. This is an academic credit option for those with significant learning and/or life experience that may be equivalent to a college or university course credit.
