Georgian kicks off Waste Reduction Week with Campus Cleanup
Oct. 4, 2016
Georgian is committed to environmental sustainability. To celebrate Waste Reduction Week, the college is implementing three initiatives open to students, staff, faculty and friends of Georgian.
Campus Cleanup
On Wednesday, Oct 12 from 10 a.m. to noon, everyone is welcome to help keep Georgian clean and green. Free lunch will be provided at noon. Register at GeorgianCollege.ca/campuscleanup. Meetup locations are:
- Barrie: outside the Last Class
- Muskoka (Bracebridge): the student lounge
- Orillia: flagpole
- Owen Sound: foyer
BONUS: Chartwells has kindly offered to give a FREE coffee to anyone who brings a reusable mug to a campus cafeteria on Wednesday, Oct. 12. Thanks Chartwells!
E-waste collection
From Oct. 17 to 21, drop off your electronic waste and rest assured that it will be disposed of as safely and sustainably as possible. Make sure your e-waste is wiped of all personal information. All proceeds will support the Georgian Food Locker. Drop off locations are:
- Barrie location: Alumni Courtyard
- Orillia location: in front of Campus Connections
- Owen Sound: Location TBD
#GCKilltheCup
Georgian campuses use more than three million cups a year. The Barrie Campus alone uses 6,600 a day. To fight this waste, take a selfie with your reusable mugs and post it to Twitter, Instagram or Georgian’s Facebook page with the hashtag #GCKilltheCup for a chance to win some amazing prizes:
- Lunch for four at the Georgian Dining Room
- Lunch for two at the Kempenfelt Conference Centre
- A Verbatim Power Pack
- Reusable mugs from the TLC
- Coca Cola t-shirts and caps
- A Georgian Grizzlies gift bag
- And more!
The sustainability committee would like to thank all our generous prize sponsors: The Lass Class and The First Class, Kempenfelt Conference Centre, Georgian’s Health and Wellness clinics, the Georgian Dining Room, the Athletics department, the GCSA and Georgian Stores.
