Georgian gives away $165,000 in awards and scholarships
Dec. 1, 2015
It pays to be a Georgian student. Georgian gave away over $165,000 in awards and scholarships at the largest awards ceremony this year at the Barrie Campus on Dec. 1.
Over 120 students were the recipients of a beneficial financial boost toward their postsecondary education this year.
Laura Bishop, a Practical Nursing student at the Muskoka Campus, spoke on behalf of all the recipients to thank the 50 donors in attendance for their generous support.
“We students are very fortunate that Georgian donors fund more than 850 awards each year with a combined value of over $720,000,” says Laura. “Their desire to see us succeed comes from their understanding that today’s students will be tomorrow’s industry leaders.”
Three students were the recipients of a $7,500 scholarship from Operation Hero. The Operation Hero Scholarship is open to a dependant or spouse of serving members of the Canadian Forces entering any full-time postsecondary program at Georgian College and has demonstrated involvement within his or her community. The scholarship fund reached its $1-million goal this year and Georgian was able to increase the number of scholarship recipients from one to three.

It was one of the many awarded to students at the ceremony at the Georgian Theatre at the Barrie Campus on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.
Congratulations to all the award and scholarship recipients and a big thanks to all the generous donors who support Georgian students every year.
