Georgian College set to launch two new programs in Orangeville

Following the decision by Humber College to close its Orangeville Campus at the end of June 2021, Georgian is pleased to announce two new two-year diploma programs; Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Social Service Worker will be delivered at the Georgian Orangeville Campus, starting in September 2020.
Georgian is excited to offer these two new programs in Orangeville. In choosing the programs, the college looked at population growth, labour demand in related occupations, enrolment patterns and current programming and feasibility.
“Georgian has delivered academic programing as well as career and employment services in Orangeville for decades,” says Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes, Georgian’s President and CEO. “We want to assure the community Georgian is committed to offering programs that will ensure quality graduates are ready to serve them and meet the demands of employers.”
As the first college established in Orangeville, dating back to 1972, Georgian has a long history of commitment to the town and Dufferin County. Georgian has more than 50 staff, faculty and administrators currently working full- and part-time at the Orangeville Campus, in the Career and Employment Community Services at the Edelbrock Centre, and the outreach office at the Mel Lloyd Centre in Shelburne.
A 2018 study by Economic Modelling Specialists (EMSI) found Georgian’s Orangeville Campus, its students and alumni added $5.6 million in income to the town of Orangeville economy, which they equate to the support of 69 local jobs in the 2016-17 fiscal year. In addition to the direct economic impact, the employment services operated by the college in Orangeville also contributed more than $823,000 to local employers on behalf of Employment Ontario and Service Canada as hiring incentives.
Georgian is also an active contributor to the community beyond the economic impact, supporting numerous community-driven and civic activities over the years.
The ECE and Social Service Worker diploma programs in Orangeville will begin in September 2020 at Georgian’s Orangeville Campus location on Centennial Street. In addition, the Orangeville Campus offers Practical Nursing, Personal Support Worker and Acute Complex Care for Internationally Trained Nurses as well as Business Fundamentals, and part-time Continuing Education courses.
