Georgian College expands presence downtown Barrie

Georgian is expanding its presence and renewing its commitment to downtown Barrie in an iconic location – directly across from City Hall in the Barrie City Centre. The college will offer a hub of creative programming in areas such as design, visual arts and emerging innovative technologies as well as services designed to energize the downtown and animate the neighbourhood in a new way.

Kevin Weaver, Georgian College’s President and CEO, made the announcement at the new location this morning (June 20).

We’re excited to strengthen our contributions to the social and economic vibrancy of downtown Barrie. This is excellent news for our students, employees, partners and the region. Georgian is proud to serve the Barrie community and we look forward to amplifying our impact. This new location will support our enrolment growth in key areas, enrich the learning experience, and build on the connections and partnerships we so deeply value.

The college is still working through the details about what programs and services will be offered at this new location starting in 2025 and anticipates sharing an update with more information in the fall.

Up to 800 students at new location

Weaver expects the new space to house up to 800 students and provide increased opportunities for hands-on learning, collaborative partnerships, and immersive, unrivaled experiences.

The new presence downtown will also distribute Georgian students more broadly throughout Barrie, enabling them to live, work and study in various neighbourhoods.

“Georgian is committed to being an engaged leader and working closely with the community to bring our vision for our new downtown location to life,” added Weaver. “We’ll have more to share in the coming months but couldn’t wait to announce this inspiring opportunity that will benefit our students and this great city for years to come.”
