Georgian celebrates Research, Innovation and Scholarship Day April 11

Student, faculty and staff research-related projects and innovations will be on display at Georgian College’s Research, Innovation and Scholarship Day, taking place at the Barrie Campus on Tuesday, April 11 from 3 to 6:30 p.m.
“Research, innovation and scholarship is an important component of Georgian’s academic environment and our work with industry and community partners. The Research, Innovation and Scholarship Day is a celebration and showcase by faculty, staff, students and partners in various academic disciplines and the broader Georgian community and public,” said Kevin Weaver, Vice President, International, Workforce Development and Partnerships.
“It is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Georgian research community and experience first-hand the difference this work makes to enhancing knowledge, answering questions and solving practical problems.”
Maya Burhanpurkar, an exceptional 17-year-old student, award-winning scientist and ardent supporter of girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), will be the keynote speaker and will address the audience following opening remarks at 4:30 p.m.
The day will also feature:
- presentations by faculty, staff and students from a range of academic areas
- trade show
- book readings
- poster presentations
- jewellery booth
- interior design presentation
- Innov8 Showcase
- creative outdoor industrial design competition with prizes awarded in a variety of categories
The event is open to faculty and staff, students and the public, and will take place in the Georgian Athletic Centre beginning at 3 p.m. with closing remarks, awards and scholarships announced at 6:30 p.m.
