Congrats, Marilynn!

In recognition of her passion for lifelong learning and impressive accomplishments over the course of her career, the Women’s Executive Network presented Board of Governors member Marilynn Booth with a 2016 Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award in the PwC Public Sector Leaders category.

Marilynn joined Georgian College’s Board of Governors in September. She’s set to retire next month as dean of the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies where she led a program of renewal, growth and innovation aimed at better meeting the needs of adult learners.

Marilynn previously served for 12 years as dean of the Chang School of Continuing Education at Ryerson University and as a tenured professor of nursing.

Marilynn’s taken on many voluntary leadership roles over the years, including president of the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education, president of the Ontario Council of University Lifelong Learning, and a board member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association.

At Lakefield College School, Marilynn was the first woman to chair its Board of Directors after 125 years of male leadership. She’s also worked to advance continuing education in many parts of the globe, including Jamaica, Mexico, Bolivia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, the Republic of Georgia and the United Arab Emirates.

The Top 100 Awards celebrate the accomplishments of Canadian women across a wide range of fields and professions who have contributed significantly as leaders, innovators and role models.

This exciting news comes on the heels of an announcement that Board of Governors member Dianne Martin, a Georgian Nursing alumna, won a Premier’s Award in the Health Sciences category. Dianne was recognized for her leadership and advocacy work.
