Base Borden Run raises $27,000 for Operation Hero scholarship

 

A group of students in running gear cheer themselves on.The annual Base Borden Run, founded by the Simcoe County Home Builders Association and the Barrie Construction Association, raises funds for the Operation Hero scholarship which supports dependants or spouses of serving members of the Canadian Forces who are pursuing an education at Georgian.

The run, in its sixth year, has raised more than $163,000 for Operation Hero. A committee made up of local community volunteers spends many months planning this great event. Representatives from the SCHBA and BCA presented Georgian College with the $27,000 cheque on Nov. 19. In 2015-16, four student recipients will benefit from the $7,500 renewable scholarship to help support them on their educational journey.

This annual event takes place at CFB Borden and includes a 5 km, 10 km or half marathon. For this first time at this event, hand cyclists also participated.

Thank you to all the Georgian participants and the 65 volunteers for helping to create another successful event to raise funds for awards and scholarships.
