ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Participants taking this course must be physically fit. A valid marine medical (pilot or diver’s medicals are also accepted) or medical fitness report is mandatory and must be submitted prior to the start of the course. Download the medical report form. Trainees arriving without a valid medical will be refused entry and will be charged the full course fee.
Participants taking this course must be clean shaven. Participants will be asked to participate in a fit test to ensure an adequate seal with the SCBA mask.
Participants must provide proof of STCW Basic Safety (or equivalent), STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft (or equivalent) and STCW Advanced Firefighting (or equivalent) prior to the start of the course. For those individuals holding foreign (non-Canadian) certificates, they must provide proof of equivalency as determined by Transport Canada. Trainees arriving without a valid Transport Canada certificate or letter stating equivalency will be refused entry and will be charged the full course fee.
Training in marine firefighting and in the use of lifeboats and life rafts requires participants to engage in moderately strenuous physical activity. Training activities include fighting fires while wearing heavy fire protective clothing and a breathing apparatus, working in areas with little or no visibility, righting an inverted life raft, treading water and swimming in water up to 10 feet in depth.

Clothing to bring to Marine Emergency Duties (MED) training:
swimsuit or shorts and a towel for pool exercises
outside winter clothing for fire or lifeboat exercises (hat, gloves, etc.)
clothing suitable for dirty environments – coveralls/workclothes/gloves for firefighting exercises
heavy socks
steel-toed boots
The college provides full protective firefighting clothing, coveralls and boots. Georgian College provides all standard sizes of immersion suits; candidates with special needs are required to bring their own immersion suits.
Course description
This course is a refresher of training courses designed to comply with the regulations and to refresh the seafarers’ skills in basic emergency duties through demonstrations and practical drills and exercises. This training will allow seafarers to renew their MED STCW BS, MED PSC, and MED AFF Training for a period not exceeding five years. Prerequisites: Min. 16 years of age, Medical Fitness Report, STCW Basic Safety (or equivalent), STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft (or equivalent), STCW Advanced Firefighting (or equivalent)
Participants taking this course must be clean shaven.
Participants may be asked to participate in a fit test.
Please Note: All International - STCW Certificates must be submitted to Transport Canada for verification and validity. Contact your local Transport Canada office to ensure your certificates are endorsed prior to course registration. Any students arriving without proof of TC verification will not be able to participate in training with CMTR.
