Prevention and Education

Course description

Recent studies have demonstrated that prevention and education activities in addictions have been very effective in reducing the amount of harm resulting from both chemical and process dependencies. This course will examine the guiding principles behind effective psychosocial programming and the prevention models currently used in the field. The resulting political, social and economical issues will be explored, including the potential financial restrictions experienced by treatment services. The student will design, present and evaluate prevention and education programs and develop tools to assess their own effectiveness as facilitators of such currirculum

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
