Mental Health in Public Safety

Course description

Students examine mental health within both the public and private sectors. Students identify and describe signs, symptoms and behaviour characteristics of mental health issues prevalent amongst individuals involved in the public safety and private industry sectors. Attention is given to how individual and community mental health issues are addressed by both the public and private sectors. Furthermore, students examine the impact of mental health on first responders and their families and organizational responses.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
