Course description

Students examine selected issues and new directions in the areas of services and supports for people with developmental disabilities and their families locally and globally. Through a review of mission statements, policies, procedures, and legislation, students discuss how community organizations are meeting the needs of people with developmental disabilities while achieving organizational goals. Students assess barriers to accessibility and inclusion in the community and explore the entrepreneurial skills and standards of practice they could use to improve inclusion at the service, organization and community levels.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
