Course description

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to policing through descriptive, theoretical and practical approaches. A balanced overview of the history and evolution of policing permits students to evaluate the appropriateness of the responsibilities, duties, and powers of police officers. Consideration is given to the problems and controversies related to policing including the nature of police liability and accountability interactions with different social institutions and groups.
