Course description

The student gains a basic understanding of the role of fluids and electrolytes and the maintenance of homeostasis. Clinical conditions of fluid imbalance will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on the initiation and maintenance of intravenous therapy including blood transfusions and parenteral nutrition.It is strongly advised that students taking this course should be in their final semester of the program. Students must be enrolled or have completed one of the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Respiratory Technician, Medical Lab Technologist/Technician or Paramedic.
