Developmental Disabilities

Course description

Students examine the etiology, symptoms and characteristics of selected developmental disabilities and investigate how to support people with developmental disabilities using various strategies and interprofessional collaboration. Through discussion, students examine legislation regarding human rights and responsibilities, advocacy, and techniques to promote self-determination. Students have the opportunity to research developmental disabilities of interest, and create an assistive device that promotes independence. Students complete their Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) certification.

Students registering for credit courses for the first time must declare a program at the point of registration. Declaring a program does not necessarily mean students must complete a program, individual courses may be taken for skill improvement and upgrading.
