Program description

In this program, students develop hands-on skills and gain experience in a variety of construction-related skilled trades. Using project-based learning techniques, students focus on applying the basics of entrepreneurship and sustainability within the construction industry. Students are introduced to a variety of construction focused courses including carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical techniques, small engine mechanics, drafting and heating and cooling. In addition, students prepare to make informed decisions related to the next steps in their education and careers.

What are the admission requirements for the Construction Techniques certificate program?

Construction Techniques admission requirements

OSSD or equivalent with 

  • Grade 12 English (C or U)

Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older), and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED, and equivalency testing. Applicants who have taken courses from a recognized and accredited post-secondary institution and/or have relevant life/learning experience may also be considered for admission; refer to the Credit for Prior Learning website for details:

Your Construction Techniques certificate gives you many career opportunities

Graduates gain a broad range of construction industry skills for general labour as well as entrance into Apprenticeship. Graduates may also elect to continue in a trade-specific techniques post-secondary program.
