Performance Boat rallies behind Midland Campus marine mechanic students
Dec. 21, 2023
A new $20,000 donation from Performance Boat Club Events, Inc. is throwing a life raft to Georgian College marine mechanic students through the creation of new entrance and in-course awards.
The Performance Boat Club student success awards will be presented to seven students enrolled in the Mechanical Techniques – Marine Engine Mechanic program, which is based at Georgian’s Robbert Hartog Midland Campus.
The in-course awards will be available starting in winter 2024 and the entrance awards will be available starting fall 2024.
Students in Georgian’s mechanical techniques program are trained for a variety of careers, such as marine engine mechanic, marine engine apprentice, marina employee, or working on recreational boats in the marine industry. As part of the curriculum, students develop a concentrated understanding of marine and watercraft systems.
“Performance Boat wants to support both the boating industry and the community. Our donation to Georgian helps us reach both goals by helping students achieve success in their academic program so that they can, in turn, graduate and contribute to our boating industry,” said Carl McBride, Managing Director, Performance Boat Club Events, Inc.
Funding aims to inspire industry to support students
Performance Boat Club Events, Inc. is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting safe and responsible performance boating through education, awareness and organized boating events.
McBride said he hopes this gift will inspire other industry leaders to increase their support to the next generation of marine mechanics at Georgian’s Midland Campus and to help attract more people to careers in the marine industry.
